Preschool Tuition
Is your child ready for school?
Starting school is a major step in a child's learning. At Heaydon Learning we provide preschool students with small group tuition to make the whole starting school experience an easier and more enjoyable time. We believe that tutoring should be child centred. For this reason our groups are small with a maximum of three students per group. The small groups allow for the child's strengths and areas for development to be monitored. All our sessions are conducted by qualified preschool or primary school teachers. Sessions are 45 minutes in length.Alternatively we have one on one preschool tuition to help get your little one ready for school. Sessions are 30 or 45 minutes in length (depending on what is most beneficial for your child)
We focus on the essentials needed for starting primary school.
In our sessions we work on......
- The beginning sounds and the alphabet (We use the jolly phonics literacy program)
- Number recognition and counting
- The social skills essential to the classroom and the playground
FIVE REASONS WHY YOUR CHILD NEEDS HEAYDON LEARNING BEFORE SCHOOL
1. The alphabet and the beginning sounds
At Heaydon Learning we teach your child not only the letters of the alphabet but phonemic awareness. This means your child will not only recognize these sounds but will start to blend the letters to form words. This is the start of your child's reading journey.
2. Numbers
It's all well and good for your child to be able to count to 100 and skip a few on the way......but do they know what these numbers mean? Are they just rattling numbers off by rote? I'm afraid they are just rattling numbers off by rote and your little one isn't as smart as what you think. It's not overly difficult to rattle off numbers that have been drilled into your child's head. At HEAYDON LEARNING we teach number identification, recognition, writing and counting to 10....then if your child is ready and only then we will push your child onto 20.
3. Fine motor skills and name writing
Your child's finger muscles are important. If you expect your child to pick up a pencil and start writing their name or letters or even words than you should be thinking again. If you want your child to be able to write it is imperative that you develop their finer motor skills (the muscles in their fingers and hands). At Heaydon Learning we work on your child's fine motor skills using a range of occupational therapy exercises. Once these are developed we start recognizing and writing your child's name. It is important that your child can write their name before starting school.
4. Social skills essential for the classroom and playground
Developing social skills for the classroom and playground is imperative for your child's step into primary school. Communicating, working cooperatively and following instructions are essential to aid in your child's future learning. It is vital for your child to be explicitly taught these skills through good adult modelling and small group interaction. At Heaydon Learning we have experienced teachers who guide your child into developing the necessary skills for the classroom and the playground.
5. Could your child have a learning difficulty
As a parent you wish for healthy and well balanced children. Yes your child does present as healthy but could they have a hiding or underlying learning difficulty that could be stopping them to develop their basic skills. Most parents "freak out" at the thought of their child having a learning difficulty and rightly so...but with the right help and the correct therapy your child can work with this and possibly through it. Detecting a learning difficulty is easy at HEAYDON LEARNING. Our experienced teachers will notify or guide you if there is a possibility of a learning difficulty. Possible learning difficulties: speech difficulties, difficulty retaining, receiving and sequencing information, intellectual disability, fine and gross motor difficulties.
