July and October School Holidays – Number Sense
Year 3 – 8
- Do you know that the most important years of school mathematics is the infant grades? If your child does not grasp the necessary and basic underlying number facts by Year 2 then most of the time there is no catching up in later years. Your child may present with good grades and are coping with mathematics in the higher grades but do they have “Number Sense?” or “Mental Sense?”
- This 2 hour course is a fun, interactive and hands on way of “bridging the gap in number.” We go right back to the early years of number, look at adding and subtracting mentally and work out the difference between multiplication and division.
- The course is suited to Year 3 to Year 8 students. The course is conducted on an individual basis however groups of 2 or 3 students of similar ability can be grouped together.
Individual - 2 hours - $100
July and October School Holidays – Fractions
Years 3 - 8
Do you know that most students when entering high school years have no idea what a fraction is? Let alone how it relates to decimals and percentages.
Why?
- Understanding fractions is a developmental thing. It’s a bit like telling the time. Some students learn the steps straight away and others find it so abstract they need it to be hands on and need to see the steps one million times over.
- Fractions, decimals and percentages are difficult. Particularly to learn from a textbook. For most it needs to be completely hands on and be related to real life events.
At Heaydon Learning through our 2 hour individual courses we aim at showing your child exactly what a fraction is and how it relates to decimals, percentages and the real world. We do this through hands on activities and real life mathematical problems.
Individual – 2 hours - $100
July and October Holidays – Creative Writing
Year 3 - 6
- Does your child struggle to write in complete sentences? Do they write with the correct punctuation and grammar? Are they missing that creative flair?
- Writing is difficult for children. Particularly if it hasn’t been modelled properly or taught correctly. If your child answers yes to any of the above then Heaydon Learning’s Creative Writing classes are for your child.
Individual - 2 hours - $100 (groups of 2 or 3 can be made)
October Holidays – Year 7 Survival Course
Year 6
If your child is in Year 6, then this is the course for them.
- Are they prepared for high school?
- Do they know what they are getting themselves in for?
- Can they complete an assignment independently?
- Do they know how to study for a mathematics test?
- Have they got the organizational skills to complete tasks and in the right time frame?
- Do they have the social and emotional skills for the leap?
If you answered no to any of the above then this course is for your child and your sanity.
As well as addressing all of the above we will review the must haves of their learning that they need before starting the big day.
